carranza who is an incredible superintendent, someone i am proud to work with. first of all let me tell you that bullying takes many different shapes. it can be physical, it can be emotional, it can be verbal. i can tell you having been a non english speaking student and immigrant early on and quite frankly times that were very different that we were bullied all the time and didn't know it was bullying and right to the point i actually dropped out of school, and i think it's also important to recognize it's not kids on kids and sometimes adults are part of it, and sometimes unfortunately staff members are part of it. i remember being accused early on by a science teacher and told i was using lsd and i didn't know what it was at the time. i was in the class for three months and didn't work english and the teacher didn't realize i didn't speak english and there was only 20 in the classroom and bullying can take different shapes and not paying attention and caring and while we're focusing on what kids are doing to each other, we must not ignore that sometimes adult

carranza in a statement. slandser is when someone tells a lie about another. it is slander when the lie can damage another's reputation. a group of students wrote a letter about the principal's behavior when she came to the classroom and i will read a short portion of this to you guys. "i don't have time for this," in a rude way and in a very offensive way that upset the entire class and just walked out and slammed the door. this is your principal, slamming doors in the front of students. miss cooks was very hurt that she didn't say a thing and just packed her stuff and called miss nancy and asked for a sub for her class so she could leave we are shocked that our principal would act like that, especially in front of the whole class and we felt very, very sad and mad that our teacher left. we are not forced to write this letter. we wrote this because we love and care about miss cooks. this is from a group of students who wrote this. and you know -- you all know that there is a problem at mlk. why don't you do

carranza. i would say again to my colleagues and the school board, it's been a real pleasure to work with people. we don't always agree. we don't necessarily think that we have to go in the same direction -- not the same direction, but for us to have our arguments and overall i always felt every single one of you have cared about what happens to students, have cared about our staff, and that because of the common ground we are able to work with leadership and the rest of the people that i just described to move us further along. i really, really appreciate the way we have been working for the -- at least the last four years, the last eight years, moving from one level to another. we're at the level where we can sit down and discuss and agree and come up with consensus. and you know something? that just does not happen on every school board. so we should all be proceed of that and i want to acknowledge matt haney for coming into this family of elected school board members and hopefully you will
